"What we need is for children to be excited about art, to want to explore and create more than emulate. Originality is renewed and the products are generationally beneficial."
CREATE Studio was founded in 2011 by Eric Smalley. As an artist and educator, he recognized a need for community based arts programs that seek to generate life-long interest and support for the visual arts.
These programs needed, of course, to be educational, but more importantly they needed to be fun! Deviating from the normalcy of the standardized classroom, CREATE teaches children how to "see" the things they look at every day and recognize the world around them. "Picasso and Van Gogh have merit in the arts, but these ideas are goals to work toward. What we need is for children to be excited about art, to want to explore and create more than emulate. Originality is renewed and the products are generationally beneficial." This philosophy is the basis for our approach to arts exposure and education.
